The "Ionikes Giortes" cultural festival of the Municipality of Nea Smyrni has been running for many decades and is one of the country's most significant open-air festivals.
The programme combines theatre performances and music concerts at affordable ticket prices, with an emphasis on quality without disregarding broad appeal.
This year's succession of the Mikis Theodorakis Festival and Ionikes Giortes is due to the staging of the Football World Cup. From 2027 the Mikis Theodorakis Festival is planned for late June to early July, with Ionikes Giortes remaining in September. All events take place at Alsos Neas Smyrnis.
