"Lysistrata" by Aristophanes
Ancient theatre
"Lysistrata" by Aristophanes is presented by the National Theatre of Northern Greece in a contemporary stage interpretation, focusing on the decay of society and the need for collective restart. The performance highlights the importance of the reappearance of the body, desire, and care as a political act, with abstinence from love functioning as a suspension of entropy.
The directorial approach by Asterios Peltekis emphasizes the conscious refusal to participate in the vicious cycle of violence and destruction, while comedy is used as a mechanism of revelation. Aristophanes reminds us that social reorganization begins from the collective survival instinct and the strength of the community.
Translation: Konstantinos Bouras
Direction – Dramaturgy: Asterios Peltakis
Cast: Elisavet Konstantinidou, Alexandra Palaiologou, Kratéros Katsoulis, Panagiotis Petrakis, Nikos Georgakis and more.
