New contemporary documentary programme curated by Antigoni Papantoni, with Fire of Love, Young Plato and Writing with Fire.
CineFIX, the cinema of EMST, welcomes the new season by picking up the thread of contemporary documentary with «Revma / Current», a new screening programme curated by cultural producer and visual artist Antigoni Papantoni. The programme, presented at EMST until March, focuses on contemporary documentary practices that prove the image is a living force, capable of transforming memory, politics and our world.
In dialogue with the EMST Collection exhibition «South by Southeast», «Revma / Current» turns its lens towards the Mediterranean, the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa as places of constant encounter, exchange and historical entanglement. The films, several of which are shown in Greece for the first time, examine how personal memories, archives and experiences connect with broader social, political and ecological conditions.
The first screening takes place on Thursday 24 September (20:30) on the Museum's Rooftop, with the award-winning documentary «Fire of Love» (2022, USA/Canada, 93') by Sara Dosa, which tells the story of French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft. The programme then continues with screenings on two Sundays each month in the Screening Room on the Museum's Mezzanine: on Sunday 4 October (17:00) «Young Plato» (2021, 52') by Declan McGrath and Neasa Ní Chianáin, about a primary school headmaster in Belfast who brings ancient Greek philosophy into the curriculum, and on Sunday 18 October (17:00) «Writing with Fire» (2021, India, 94') by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, about the journalists of the independent news platform Khabar Lahariya. All films are screened with Greek subtitles.
