In 1939, two weeks after the end of the Spanish Civil War, Franco organizes a dinner at the historic Hotel Palace in Madrid to celebrate the victory. The hotel has been converted into a hospital, but the officials insist on holding the dinner.
All the hotel's chefs are political prisoners. Lieutenant Medina, under pressure, accepts the proposal of the maître d'hôtel and decides to temporarily release the anti-regime chefs to prepare the dinner for Franco. The anti-Franco chefs realize that this might be their last chance to escape.
